Event Badge Printing in Ghana: What Actually Works

At GOIL Ghana's dealers conference, badges went out for 300+ delegates without a single hold-up at the door. At the Masterclass on Mitigating Illegal Wildlife Trade with the University of Oxford and CBCR, badge printing ran alongside NFC check-in for the whole event. Badge printing is the one part of an event people actually watch happen in real time, which is why we built it with as few moving parts as possible.

Why It Takes Under 3 Seconds

Most badge-printing delays don't come from the printer; they come from everything that happens right before the print command: looking someone up, confirming their details, and generating a QR code on the fly. MAFS removes that step entirely. The badge template, the attendee's data, and their QR code are resolved the instant they're checked in—whether they registered online weeks earlier or walked up to the kiosk five minutes ago. There's nothing left to look up when the print button is pressed, which is the actual reason it's under 3 seconds and not the printer being unusually fast.

No Special Hardware Required

MAFS works with the standard thermal and inkjet badge printers venues, and organisers already have, we're not locking anyone into a proprietary printer or a specific badge stock. That matters in practice: an organiser doesn't need to source specific hardware ahead of an event, and if a printer fails, swapping in a second one doesn't mean reconfiguring anything.

What Happens When the Venue's Wifi Fails Mid-Event

This scenario separates a badge-printing setup that survives the day from one that doesn't. Because the kiosk holds attendee data and badge templates locally rather than fetching them live for every print, badges keep printing through a dead connection, and everything syncs back up once the connection is restored. We didn't design this in the abstract; venue wifi across Ghana is inconsistent enough that offline handling isn't an edge case- it's a normal Tuesday.
